Olá,
I am Daniela Brasil, an artist, curator, and educator based in Graz, Austria. I am also a transdisciplinary researcher with a background in critical spatial practices and decolonial feminisms.
My work engages with questions of urban transformation, migration and socio-ecological justice. I am particularly interested in (un)learning, regenerative practices that challenge dominant epistemologies and support collective repair and transformation… towards the pluriverse.
I have university teaching experience at the intersection of contemporary art, cultural anthropology, and urban studies, as well as in informal learning settings for children and youth. My projects are often collaborative and situated, bridging artistic methods with community-based inquiry and experimental pedagogy. I work with arts-based research, learning and exhibiting environments that value critical thinking-feeling, co-creative, open-ended processes.
My new book is out!
Following the journey of the Passiflora (Maracujá) from South America to Austria, the book explores stories of migrant plants, colonial encounters and rooting processes – for humans and plants alike. With illustrations, collages, photographs, and cultural-historical reflections, the book offers a closer look at my living sculpture, Up/Rooting developed this year in my residency in
the Austrian Sculpture Park… also known as the “passions garden”!
Published by Universalmuseum Joanneum, with contributions by Gabriele Mackert and myself.
